October 25 “The Secret Life of the Ego” The Rev. Angela Herrera
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Can your ego cause you to wear a “mask” that hides your true self? Have you known
someone with a “monstrous” ego? (Okay, okay, enough with the Halloween puns). This
sermon is about why egos get a bad rap even though we need them, the difference between a
big ego and a strong one, and the role of the ego in becoming spiritually wise. It’s sure to be
a real “treat.” (Sorry!)

October 18 “Will You Listen to Yourself?”
The Rev. Christine Robinson, Minister Emerita, First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque
We are often told that the good life is one of “being in the moment,” always aware of what is going on around us in the world. Dogs are really good at that, and it is one of the things welove them for. But people are more complicated than dogs because we have an inner life … which we also need to listen to and learn from. Christine was the Senior Minister of this church for 28 years before retiring three years ago. Since then, she has done some church consulting and minister mentoring, tended her garden, and has enjoyed being an active member of this congregation.

The Rev. Bob LaVallee
First U has a strong racial justice practice, but given what we’ve recently learned about the state of racism in America, how do we more deeply and authentically ingrain anti-racism in everything that we do together?

"Question Box Sunday” Got spiritual questions? For this special service, congregants were invited to email a question ahead of time. Drawing them at random and speaking off the cuff, Angela and Bob respond to as many questions as they can during the usual sermon time, and will consider the rest as they plan future sermons. We also welcomed 41 New Members with a New Member Recognition Ceremony.

“The Right to Vote” The Rev. Angela Herrera
On August 26, 1920, an amendment was added to the US constitution, stating: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Many Unitarian and Universalist women were involved in the suffrage movement. As we mark the 100th anniversary, we’ll remember them, the long fight for voting rights, and the work still ahead.
